Uber and BRTA work together for building safer roads
Leading ride-sharing platform Uber and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) are working together to raise awareness about road safety. As part of this, Uber will support the regulator's ongoing campaign through its app. It will also help control the speed of fast-moving vehicles.
The Mobile Court will be managed by the Assistant Directors (Engineers) of the Circle Office of BRTA with the help of the District Administration. To prevent road accidents, they will take action against violation of traffic laws and work to maintain order on the roads. Offline trips will also be heavily discouraged through the campaign. As a result of such trips, the safety of both passengers and drivers is at risk.
As part of this joint venture, information and guidance will be provided to drivers connected to the Uber platform. This will promote the importance of obeying traffic laws and responsible driving. This campaign will further highlight that speeding is a punishable offence.
About this joint venture, Uber Bangladesh Country Head Nasheed Ferdous Kamal said, “The safety of passengers and drivers is of utmost importance to Uber. Earlier we also worked in partnership with Bangladesh Police to increase awareness about traffic laws and improve road safety. In line with this, we are now working in partnership with BRTA to increase road safety. We believe this timely initiative by BRTA will make the country's roads safer.”
BRTA Director (Road Safety) and Spokesperson Sheikh Mohammad Mahbub-e-Rabbani said, “BRTA has always been firmly committed to ensuring safe roads. With a view to safer roads, Uber has taken initiatives to spread safety messages on their platform to increase awareness among drivers, which is highly commendable. We welcome this effort and initiative by Uber. May Uber continue its efforts to reduce reckless driving on the roads as well as foster a culture of safe roads through responsible driving.”
Uber is operating in 9 cities of 4 divisions of Bangladesh with various products. Awareness message will be reached through this campaign to all the drivers in these areas.
